PostSubject: mixed feelings   mixed feelings I_icon_minitimeThu Jul 12, 2012 6:53 pm

Hi everyone,

I am due a lp next week after waiting for 9weeks for them to do it. But have such mixed feeling regarding the lp,
my friends don't really understand about all the symptoms and have said they think its stress. I know that stress can
cause many things but all my symptoms point to iih - even the neurologist said that it was and just needs it confirmed
by lp.

The reason I have mixed feelings is what if the pressure is not high? Does this happen and I could still possibly
have iih because what then what could it be.

I have optic nerve swelling - so much pain behind the eyes at the moment. Headaches on waking, dizziness some
nausesa. I havent been to work for 2 weeks again because of the fatigue i am so tired cant really achieve much.

Any advice would be appreciated
Bonnie

Bonnie, I know the self induced stress we can feel on that lp to confirm IIH.
The thing is, your opening pressure could fall into the "normal" range but still be too high for you.
Insist of having fluid drawn off and keep drawing it off until you notice a change in your symptoms.
In general "normal" high end stops at 20 cm. Between 20-25 is " borderline high".
My pressures were between 22 & 24. My normal is yet to be found but may be 10.
Just be sure to lay flat after the lp to reduce the chances of getting a headache.

Oh no!! After all this time. How awful. Heidi is very knowledgable about the UK system of healthcare, so I am sure she will help point you in the right direction. I do know that she has said in the past that if your pain gets to bad go to the A & E.

Do stay after them so they don't forget about you.
Keeping fingers crossed
