Hi,

I was only writing a post two months ago saying I was in remission. Well it didn't last long. I had been doing great since September symptom and medication free. My Lp nearly 3 months ago was 17. But unfortunately 2 weeks ago headaches started back, stiff neck and then my visual disturbances. Got an LP straight away my pressure was 53. Started back the diamox but I had been no better since the LP. I only got about 4 hours relief. I had to go for another Lp yesterday to see if I would get relief. My pressure was 51. These have been the highest pressures I have ever had. I'm being referred for a shunt just like that. My neuro can't explain why they have jumped so high so quick. I was really upset yesterday.

I'm disappointed more than anything today that it has changed so quick. I've read alot of horror stories about the shunts but I will just have to stay positive and hope that it may work for me.

So sorry to hear that the remission didn't stick. Sometimes that happens. But, not all shunt surgeries go awry. Mine has been fine, and I have a lp shunt, installed Nov 1, 2011.
The main thing is to get that high pressure down, and in a hurry, so it doesn't permanently mess up your cranial nerves, or your optic nerves!!

Let us know how it goes.

I'm so sorry the remission was so short. hug I know that there are many of us that have had problematic shunts, I myself have in the past, but my first LP shunt worked fantastically, and I only had it revised to a VP shunt because my back couldn't tolerate it. The VP shunt I have now has worked incredibly well for the past 4 years.
The unfortunate thing is not many people come back and post when their shunts are successful, which is why you see more posts of the ones who have had problems. You could be one of the successful ones, so please don't concentrate on the horror stories, because although there might seem a lot of them, there are more of us who have done very well with a shunt.

Hi sweetie .. I'm so sorry to hear that your pressure is back up and that they are talking about shunts. I don't have one myself, so I don't have any experience to pass along. But what Heidi says makes sense .. sadly, I don't think we hear as much from people who are having success with their shunts, because they're too busy being "back out there" living a normal life. Smile It would be great if more folks would take the time to share their successes. Sending you *hugs* and hoping all goes well, hun. When do you meet with the neurosurgeon?
