Omg my surgery is fast approaching... I'm getting nervous mire more and more each day. I'm cutting my afro of in Friday. Since they have to cut patches in my head to use this special machine to find my small ventricles.. all of my preoperative work will be completed on the 8.. any recommendations to stay calm?

Waiting is always the hardest part. Making plans for your surgery is a great idea. Have you already made a shopping list for easy to make meals when you are post op? Frozen dinners are handy but having some precooked homemade meals in the fridge/freezer are sweet! Things like applesauce and peanut butter and crackers are good snacks.
Have you already made a to do list? You'll want to have done your laundry, run the vacuum and watered the plants. Get some good reading out that you have been meaning to catch up on. Have a good soft comfy chair/seat on the sofa ready so you'll have a comfortable place to sit upright. You may find that post surgery you just want to sit with your eyes closed and listen to soft music. Whatever your system will allow. The day after my lp shunt surgery I was up and around business as usual. just couldn't lift anything heavy for a couple of weeks. You may find the same (I hope that you do). Just in case, have someone in the wings that can come by and help you everyday, even if it is just to make sure you get out of bed to use the bathroom.
Time will fly by, and before you know it, you'll have had the surgery and already start to feel better. Have to keep that goal in mind. ;)

Marlana, I'm not sure if you're into yoga or meditation, but breathing and guided imagery helped me a lot! A local hospital actually provides guided imagery cds for surgery..it was the most calm and positive I've ever felt. Good luck and keep us posted!
