Eye Tests and Visual Fields

HI

I was wondering if anyone still goes to see and optician along side the eye clinic? I have asked my gp and he said he never knew what happened Neutral and as it is comming upto my yearly appointment i would like to know, as the eye clinic just seems to do field tests,

It was Vision Express that found my Papillodema when i first got diagnosed,

Can anyone help?

Hi Jean, I still go to specsavers for eye tests every two years, besides my regularly eye and visual field checks at the hospital. As I've been with Specsavers for years, they too check my visual fields and are up to date on my IIH.

SO, even though you still use the opticians, the hospital should still check your visual fields etc, and if you aren't receiving appointments from them, you should contact either them, your Neurologist/Neurosurgeon to make sure they do.

I see my Neuro every 6 months now and have my fields done around the same time too.. Pre my shunt and sub temporal decompressions I saw them every 3 months, but as everything is stable it's now every 6.

im far from stable so i guess its looking like im going to be attending these clinics like this for some time..i was hoping that this was fairly normal almost a year down the line, i know this is a little off topic but does anyone know of any kind of alternative types of L.Ps? as iv had 2 failed as a result of pain whilst having them done.. there was talk of an assisted one (with xrays) but i dont see how that is going to make it any easier for me!

my neuro is far from an understanding man and keeps telling me that i will have L.Ps and that they have to do them at some point which i do understand but if anyone out there does know of anything i could bring up it would be very helpful x

I only know about being in the foetal position or sitting up for an LP, but they do also do them under Fluoroscope. Here's the link to our information on Lumbar Punctures which includes information about them using Fluoroscopy.

Lumbar Punctures Information

Hope it helps.

I see my optometrist yearly for my regular eye exams.. He handles my eye glass scripts. He was also the optometrist that found my papilledema back in 1991. I have been seeing him since I was about 10 years old, so 30+ years, and he is definitely up to date with my IIH. My neuro-ophth handles my visual fields and all those other fun and glorious IIH eye tests. I haven't seen him since 2009 because my vision has been pretty stable. I had ONSF in 2008. Since I have been having pressure issues again, I will be scheduling an appointment with him soon. I have had some visual disturbances but a look at the optic nerves in the ER on Jan 4th showed them to still be in pretty good shape

In my first year of this illness, I saw my Ophth every 3months. I had pretty bad paps from the start.
In the second year. it was down to every 4 months and so on. Now, I see my Ophth once a year, but attend my local Opticians every four months.
At these check ups, they usually take photos of the back of my eyes, and field vision test.
They also check my prescription,as I wear glasses.
After three years and a shunt, my left eye is finally cleared and the right eye very much better.
I am to see my local Optician, in the next few weeks, and Ophth, in a year.
Unless, something changes, then I got back up that day.

I have learned, that paps have a life of their own and will get better when they are ready! Cath.

I am newly diagnosed since February of 2011 my regular eye doc found the swelling on my optic nerve. Now about every other week it gets very hard to see out of my right eye. I don't wear glasses as they said my clarity is 20/20 but I failed the field vision test they gave me for the right eye. Today it is pretty bad I have pain in the right eye along with hard to see. not sure if I should call my eye doc or not.

Hi Melody, if you are worried, and indeed I can see you are, give your doctor a ring and see what he advises. It is better to ring him now rather than worry all weekend. hug
