I have had IIH for 2 years and have been on flights with little problems, but this time we went to Hawaii, (over 10 hours in the air for us) and woke up in the middle of the night after landing with such a bad hadache I was vomiting.  Thought it wsa a coincidence, but then last night after our return flight had an even worse headache returning home.  Now, my new nouro thinks I have migraines and IIH.  But why would I just happen to hae migraines after flights?  I rarely have migraine type pain, maybe 2-3x a year, and now 2x a month?  Something else is going on, I do believe.  Anyone else hurt like crazy when flying?  I think my pressure is rising.  Am schedued for an LP in a few days to check.

Sorry to hear about your misadventure.
I have been fortunate to not have any issues when flying.  Now that I have tubes in my ears I don't even get the pressure there either.

I hope the lp will reveal what is going on.  Good luck!

I haven't been able tolerate elevation changes even when driving at times. My doctors seem to think it's related to pressure levels and IIH. It's always good to have things checked out, but I would assume it's IIH. Sorry you had such a horrible reaction..hopefully LP will give you some relief!

Could be the elevation.  I live up at 9000 feet above sea level and since I got home from our vacation at sea level I have been miserable......little sleep.....lots of pain......hoping things level out a bit soon....thanks for your input, I never seemed to have trouble with planes or elevation changes before this trip.

I don't tolerate flying well at all. I usually have bad headaches for 2-3 days even after the short flight to Arizona to see family. Prescott and Sierra Vista are both at elevations close to Fort Collins, CO where I live. I think the up and down as well as the pressurizing/depressurizing of the cabin. Last year I took a smaller commuter plane ( 18 passenger) that didn't fly as high and only needed a day to recover.

With our csf pressures affected we are more prone and sensitive to other migraines as well. In this case it sounds like you have experienced a High Altitude headache.

A High altitude headache is experienced when flying, usually over 3000 meters above sea level. It is also caused Mountain sickness. It’s caused by lack of oxygen reaching the body’s tissues. The common symptoms are headache either the front of the head; one or both sides with a feeling of dullness of pressing that can be mild or severe, with nausea and loss of appetite.

I wonder if seeing a Doc and prepping like one does in high altitude mountain climbing with Diamox prior to an anticipated flight would be helpful?
