| so i got rushed into hospital with a temp of 39.6 and hate rate was really high. the fluid that had biult up in my tummy (due to the coil) was infected and the infection was travailing to my brain. i was put on a week drip of antibiotics. i was being sick ad shacking double vision for a the whole week.
once the infection had gone i had the op to replace the shunt, after the surgery i kept having bad epileptic seizures but after 2 days calmed down i am home now with over 30 staples all and all. i feel some what better except for i have quite bad low pressure head aches.
i found the surgery so much more traumatic this time being put under was worse and waking up was a nightmare i hope this is my last surgery i really do.
i am hoping that i can have a child this year x |

| Sammy, I'm so sorry that you ended up with an infection, sadly that does seem to happen when the shunt becomes loose. I know from experience. Hopefully now your recovery will be a good one and fingers crossed you don't have any more problems. I understand that you found it more traumatic than last time, I felt like that too when I had my first infection and I think it was because of the pain and feeling so ill. You know to stay laid flat with low pressure and have plenty of fluid, caffeine and some painkillers. Coke is a good way of getting lots of caffeine. If it gets worse or you develop a temperature ring the ward you were on and ask to speak to a doctor. Take care of you and have a good recovery, we're all here for you. Heidi xx |

| YES! I still get flare ups everyso often and have found using a heatpad or hotwater bottle helps. I also think some of it is due to the manhandling you get before and after surgery. It should settle down and like me you might have flare ups now and again or it might not ever bother you again. |

| Indeed. I have the problem in my lower back. Within a 2 1/2 month period, they cut into my back 4 times. Shooting from the hip with honesty here, I was told that once they do so much there's not a lot of 'bounce back' nerve and tissue wise. My nerves primarily recognize pain in my back even if you're just touching me gently, say in perhaps, a . It makes me flinch, and now and then I scream if it's a particularly sensitive day. I'm not saying this is the case with you, but it's not just bad things getting fixed in a surgery, it's destruction of good things to fix those bad things. Your body can only recover so much, and a lot of that is dependent on your age and activity levels, your illness, etc. I know, I for one, am not a very 'bouncy ball', my body hated everything that was done to it! So I'm hoping that in your case, that this will be a turn-around in time. That you will heal and your body will adjust ! |
