Has anyone been experiencing back pain since having a LP? I have only had one (so far) That was the one that gave me my Diagnosis. But 4 weeks on I am experiencing lower back pain and cramp like pain. Last night I went to bend down and a sharp pain shooted in my back in the exact same place I had the LP. I was wondering if this is normal and whether it will last? I have had my nuero appt come through today for the 3rd of Dec and I know I will have to have another LP, and its worrying me that It will make the pain worse, LP's are horrendous as it is, but to have it whilst having back pain already is scaring the living daylights outta me! :/

This can happen especially if at the time of the LP they managed to hit a nerve. It sounds like it could have brought on sciatica, which is one of the common things that happens with LP's and LP shunts. I think that when they feel for the spaces in your spine for the procedure and the combination of the needle being pushed in, can aggravate your sciatic nerve.

Do you know if you have a problem taking anti inflammatory's? Some people are allergic to them or aren't able to take them.

An anti inflammatory can help which you can buy over the counter, such as Ibuprofen or you could try the Volterol which has Diclofenac in it, which is also an anti inflammatory.

It's also effective to use a heat pad or hot water bottle on your lower back. If it continues or gets worse visit your GP.

Thankyou Heidi, I will try ibuprofen and the hot water bottle tonight and see how I get on. I have taken them before so not allergic. Never ending all these pains and aches. Just had a really long convo with my dad who has come round to the idea that there is something wrong with me and its not the docs 'finding problems that arent there' He wants me to download some of the booklets and sheets you have on here so he can get a better understanding. He has just left mine and caught me having a 'bad' day, I do look rough to be fair and eyesight is decreasing! Just didnt want to worry him so much but didnt want him not to understand too! Hard to know what to do for the best. But I think the info sheets will help us both really. He has even offered to come with me to my first neuro apt, which is sooo unlike him! Hopefully I will have a good weekend to make up for the bad week fingers crossed
