Subject: Hyperventilating to reduce pressure ? Wed Aug 08, 2012 1:36 am
I have been informed and have read that hyperventilating will temporarily lower intracranial pressure. Has anyone tried this? It sounds dangerous to me but I am willing to try it. I just don't know how to do it. I have tried taking the breaths in and out quickly but I haven't been able to "make" myself hyperventilate...
I'm not sure anyone can address this because it does sound dangerous to me....I thought I'd ask though.
:hmmm:

I googled "hypervention and ICP" and found lots of information. They all said about the same thing: good for very short term relief when performed in a medical setting, closely monitored, and as a last resort.

it was my neuro-radiologist who suggested trying it. he didn't seem to think it was risky. obviously stop if you start feeling lightheaded.
