I went for a colonoscopy yesterday and had quite a difficult time.  It was done without sedation.  All was going well until the doctor got to the lower left quadrant.  At one point I was actually in tears it hurt so bad.  I have felt this pain before and almost went to th ER.  After much manipulatin and changing positions, we finally found if I was on my right side it went well.  Seems the left side of my colon is being pulled to the right side.  The doc kept asking about possible abdominal surgery.  Never had any, just the shunt.  She had me describe who it works and where it goes.  I have a lp shunt.  The valve is on the right side of my waist.  The exit tubing loops around and.........dumps the CSF into the lower left quadrant!

Word of wisdom:  if you have a shunt and going for a colonoscopy or suffer from abdominal pain, might just be that pesky tubing.  Seems the adhesion is normal for a foreign body within the body.  Just picked a bad spot to do it!!

The GI doc said it doesn't need to be attended to.  Just remember for the next time!

Ouch, sorry Linda! Yes, I actually have myofascial release done regularly because my connective tissue is in knots from all the surgeries. I actually have more issues with it than muscle tension.

They really wind and shove those catheters through our abdominal cavities..lol. Sometimes they even stitch across to keep them in place. My catheter came undone and knotted up in my side after LP shunt installed, so he told me they stitched a couple places to keep it in place. The general surgeon that did my VP shunt in May also talked about concerns having to fish the new catheter around the old one in addition to the adhesions and scar tissue. They ended up drilling through a lot of muscle to avoid organs and all the other junk left behind from the previous surgeries. I never thought about it causing issues with a colonoscopy though..thanks for the heads up!!!
