Hi people,

As you can see from my topic title, I am sooo frustrated at the system that is the NHS. I have been off work for 3 weeks back and forth
to the gpshort hospital stay and a and e trips and am waiting to see my Neurologist. Because I have not seen him for longer than 6mths and apparently i missed an appointment. Which i never received. I now have to go back on the waiting list as its now a new referral and not a
follow up appointment . So i phoned the appointments line and my case has to be graded and at the moment i am looking at
6 to 8 weeks.

So i say to the lady (who was very nice its not her fault) if that is the case can i be refered to any of the other doctors to make
my wait quicker. No not allowed, can i have the Dr's email add to pleaded my case NO not allowed. So phoned the secretary and she
said she cant help me its out of her hands the appointments line are the ones to help. So a dead end.

So now i have a dilemma do i go back to work on monday and just cope or do i phone my gp back and tell him that the
wait is 6-8weeks possibly the end of the month and i need to be signed off until then. What would you do? Please advise

Bonnie

Oh no, Bonnie! :( I'm sorry to hear you can't get in to see the Neuro for such a long time. If you don't feel that you are ready to go back to work on Monday, I would definitely call the GP and see what he can do to help you as far as getting you signed off. Also, I wonder if your GP's office could get in touch with the Neuro and try to get you in a little sooner? Not sure how it works over there, but I know sometimes here in the US one doctor can assist with getting you in to see another doctor quicker. Might be worth asking!

Bonnie, to say you've been fobbed off is an understatement and all that these people had to do was to speak to your Neurologist or leave him a message to contact you. However, I agree with BananasMom about asking your GP about what he could do for you. You could also contact your hospitals PALS, because they could help expidite an appointment for you.

Let us know how you get on. Hug

HI everyone - well i have not taken this lying down (so to speak) I phoned the Neurologist secretary and she was very dismissive and would not help at all. So I sent him a letter stating that it would be 9 weeks from onset of headaches and guess what I have an appointment tomorrow - YAY never been so happy to have a hospital app ever....

Hi Heidi,

Talk about attitude - the Neurologist had such a attitude towards me. He started off saying so why are you here?? Coz i fancied a visit to the hospital - plonker, He also said that he did not tell me that i have intercranial hypertension which he did (where would i magic that medical term from). But i never backed down and cut a long story short i will be having a lumbar puncture in 2/3 weeks time.

So sorry you have had to fight and I Wish you all the best with the LP.

I was told 8 weeks after my first LP that i was fine i had to bully the neuro into giving me another LP to prove me wrong!! my pressure was still high so I was proven right

find them and stick to your gun hun

hugs

I'm so glad your neurologist has decided to do a LP Bonnie. It sounds like you have been treated right as a patient! hug

I would get in touch with PALS if he continues to have a attitude as they can help you and failing that ask to see another Neurologist as your care is going to be lacking because of his bad attitude towards you.

I wish you all the best for the LP and keep us informed!
