Low pressure headache
Low pressure headache after lumbar puncture,LP,spinal tap

Hi,
I have a question. I had my lumbar puncture on thurs. and I have had the spinal headaches before and had to have a blood patch. BUT, Right now I am not sure if it is low pressure headache OR a leak headache. I'm OK as long as I'm lying down, and ok for an hour or two when I get up. But like now It is hurting SO bad. not sure wheather to go to er. It isn't as bad as last time, that's why I'm not sure what to do. The ringing in my ears got MUCH worse and the fatigue is 10x worse..... I'm trying to get over this and not be a baby but this is too much. What should I do? I just can't think straight. :(

I think you should get it checked out either at the ER or with your doctor. It could be just a low pressure headache and it would fit in the time line of your last LP. but if it's not going away and it's causing you so much pain, the ER sounds a good bet. Let us know how you get on, and I hope this gets sorted for you soon hug

Heidi,

I wanted to let you know my headache is much less today! Thank goodness! It was just a low pressure headache (whew) My neuro- Optho. told me I have no more swelling in my optic nerves....BUT my vision is still very off, he said the pressure does that, I thought with this LP it would take care of that for a bit!!?? It did last time but not so much this time. I still feel the pressure and they drained me to a 7. This whole thing is crazy, it isn't just different for each person, everything seems to change with each procedure! Nothing works the same twice. FRUSTRATING!!! :doh Hope everyone has a good day today!

I'm so glad your headaches easing, and I hope at the time of me posting this, it has eased a lot more. It is a shame that the relief from a lumbar puncture is never the same the next time you need to have one. I've had some where the relief was felt within a day, but then I've had others where the low pressure headache has been almost immediate and lasted for a week or more. There's no guarantee they will do the job the same every time.

I hope your vision starts to pick up and doesn't get any worse, but if it does don't hesitate in going back to your doctor.

Have a great weekend! hug
