well since i got diagnosed as iih in feb10, it was noted that my anti depressants had caused iih so i was advised to come off my anti depressants to treat iih, I thought this was to soon as i just gotten out of a psychiatrist hospital in jan 10. Well i came off my anit-depressants and i was great, until the past week with all of the scares at hospital wih my Little one, and my cpn decidin that i dont need her anymore. I have got an appointment at my gp's to see about other forms of help i can have as i am scared about having tablkets again after they have caused my pressure last time. Sorry if it dont make sense jean

Jean I'm so sorry to read that you're having a bad time of it. I have to admit I've never heard of antidepressants causing IIH, especially as so many of us are actually taking them. I know antidepressants can cause weight gain, so maybe that's why they think you shouldn't be taking them, on the reasoning that, that's what's happened and weight gain has caused your IIH. I do see though the the downside of you not taking them, and that with everything going on you are bound to hit a low period. I think you are doing the best thing by seeing your doctor, and having a good chat with him, hopefully he will be able to manage it another way. Please remember we are always here for you

I'm with Heidi, never heard of anti depressants causing IH, in fact I went on them because of IH and I just couldnt cope with the pain I was in and everything was just too much. As Heidi said go see your GP and have a chat with him/her about it.

I'm glad your depression isn't back, and I understand you being low at the moment as you've been through such a lot. I hope this feeling lifts in time, I'm sure your doctor will have an idea what to do should you need to go back in a weeks time. It is very hard to cope when you're feeling low, especially when you have an illness and children too. Finding a balance mentally to be able to deal with everything isn't an easy thing to do. Are you getting the support you need from family and friends? Sometimes talking to them about how you feel about your IIH, and other things that are on your mind helps a great deal, because if they understand your feelings, they can understand what you're going through a lot better. If you don't tell them, they slip into thinking you are coping and they don't need to do anything. So that when you hit a low spot or depression, they won't see it or realise the reason for it. Talking always helps because it stops you from bottling things up inside, which puts more strain on you to try and deal with everything yourself. We all need a release from worries. We are all here to support you, and above all to listen

YEAH I have let my gp know as he suspected i was pregnant i have had a scan today and i am roughly 10 weeks. which is concerning the drs as i have had a general anesthetic and a lot of xrays on my abdomen so the drs are saying there is a big chance the baby might be not healthy. So i have to tak through my options with my gp next week

I'm so sorry that you have even more worry on your shoulders. You must think everything is going pear shaped for you at the moment. Hopefully talking to your GP will be a big help to you, are you taking your partner with you? It might be a good idea for him to be there with you as it will be conforting to know he's there, and of course we are here for you too.

Is it ok to share which medication you believe to have caused your iih? I have been reviewing some literature and found one tiny study suggesting an antidepressant I currently take may have caused my papiledema. We really won't know until I stop taking it. I still need something for the depression though as it is getting worse rather than better.

Yes Megan you are allowed to share this, the only rules we have about Medication is that we don't give medical advice about them ie: changing dose or stopping medication, or telling you which medication you should take instead of the one prescribed.
