Zonisamide?

My surgeon prescribed Zonisamide recently.

Has anyone else tried this med? I wasn't able to tolerate the Diamox because of the intense gastro upset.

I'm on day 5 of the Zonisamide, and so far no weird side effects. It's supposed to cause drowsiness, but with me, who knows? I'm tired all the time anyway. ;)

Zonisamide is used with other medications to prevent and control seizures (epilepsy). For more information visit this link Zonisamide

I am on Zonisamide. I have been making the rounds trying to find a combo of meds that will work to get my pressure down (and keep it down). I am slowly increasing the dose. Started at 50 mg and have been increasing by 50 mg once a week. Am now up to 150 mg. /day. I am still taking Diamox too. I have noticed that I constantly feel slightly nauseated. I am more fatigued than I was before also. I have had times when I feel some shortness of breath, especially when I am doing something physically difficult, like carrying something heavy for a bit of a distance. I hope to get up to 300 mg. and see how it works.

My doctor took me off the Zonisamide already.

I hadn't noticed any hindering side effects thus far, but the headaches were definitely worse once I began it. I didn't connect the two. Going to see if they get less severe. Apparently a side effect is: headache.

Almost comical.

So sorry Shawna! I've experienced it w/ a couple of medications myself..sometimes the cure IS worse than the disease! There are a lot of medications and alternative therapies out there, so hopefully they'll find the right combination for you soon!

In my case the opposite is true. My little headaches have gone away completely since increasing the Zonisamide. Typical.....

Well, I made it up to 250 mg of Zonisamide, but cannot handle the side effects! The most significant is the difficulty in catching my breath. That's a real eye opener! Trying to exercise and I have to stop and rest. Then the cognitive issues. Supposed to be not as bad as Topamax, then Topamax must be really awful because this stuff is driving me nusts. Have to write down everything. Can't remember what I saw on TV yesterday. Can't remember when I cooked up some dishes in the fridge so I had to toss out everything for fear it was too old. My Neurologist said we'll try something else. Oh goodie.

I'm so sorry..the medication merry-go-round is soooooo frustrating! I don't tolerate meds well at all, so I've learned to keep a log. Just find somewhere to jot down what you've tried, when you tried them, and what side effects you experienced. It seems like a pain, but will come in handy if a specialist needs to justify a surgery or alternative treatment! It's important to remember that everyone reacts differently, so I always feel like I at least need to try their suggestions. I have been known to do a little research and make my own suggestions though..lol. Hang in there Wylee!!!
