Diabetes Medication?? Empty
PostSubject: Diabetes Medication??   Diabetes Medication?? I_icon_minitimeWed Jan 08, 2014 7:15 am

I recently began taking my diamox again. I'm on 500mg 2x/day. When my PCP put me back on the diamox, she also prescribed Metformin 500mg 2x/day. Except...I don't have diabetes. My A1C was 5.something, which is normal. I know Metformin is typically prescribed to those with diabetes, but my PCP said that it could help with my IIH and perhaps assist in some weight loss. Has anyone else heard of this?

I also take Metformin ... however, I was already taking this medication prior to my diagnosis of IIH.  I take it for a condition called PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome.  Which is possibly related to IIH, but they have not confirmed that officially, I don't think.  Anyway, I wondered if maybe they put you on Metformin because your bloodwork or other testing/history showed signs of PCOS.  Do you think that's possible?
