Symptoms of Anxiety and Panic

Anxiety is a cause of many different factors in your life. It could be brought on by your circumstances, or from experiences of being, or of feeling under threat, changing jobs, moving home, pregnancy or losing your job. It could be just that it's in your genes.

Anxiety is what stops us from doing stupid and dangerous things, keeping us alert and encouraging us to deal with problems we are facing. In extreme cases of danger or trauma, anxiety can last for months or years, even if you weren't physically harmed, and this is well known as PTSD or post traumatic stress disorder.

Therefore it would make sense that an IIH sufferer would have anxiety, especially as the symptoms with it affect you so drastically. There's worry about your vision, the constant pain, surgeries and lumbar punctures. It's hard to not be anxious as there is so much going on when your pressure rises.

With anxiety often comes panic, which can come on suddenly and make you feel like you can't breathe and can cause you to shake. You could experience it once or on a more regular basis. If they happen regularly it could because it's being triggered by something specific which has made you feel anxious or frightened before. You could even have a panic attack in your own home without warning as they can happen anywhere at any time

A panic attack can last anything from ten minutes to thirty minutes. Some people when they are having a severe panic attack, have been known to think they are having a heart attack due to their symptoms.

While distressing to someone experiencing panic attack, they are treatable with medications and therapies. There are also coping strategies that you could use which we will cover later on.
