Niki
It is my hope to have venous sinus stenting as it sounds better than having a shunt. I just scheduled an angiogram for February 22nd. The surgeon will measure pressure differentials in the venous sinuses and arteries and to get a real picture of the anatomy. My scan looks like there is good bloodflow on one side and none on the other side. I thought that this means that the bad side is stenosed and might be able to be opened with a stent. The surgeon says that indeed it may be stenosed and if so stenting is a good option. But he also cautioned that it may be thrombosed or blocked completely or even worse not even there. He also noticed what looks to be stenosis on the side that has a blood supply. If he finds that the side that has no tangible bloodflow is thrombosed and if there is stenosis on the side that I call "the good side" that stenting would not be a great choice as if the stent were to collapse it would make me more likely to have a stroke or a fistula.
My hopes are that he will find that stenting would be a good choice for me as the shunt surgery and longevity alarms me considerably.

Good luck
Mark

Hi there Mark,
I got diagnosed in june last year, only had symptoms for two weeks, i had a veogram in August, my pressures were 26-28. I am having another venogram on Monday in Sydney and hopefully then will find out when i am having the stenting done. Do you know how long you are in hospital for when it's done? I really hope you get some good news soon, it's all very complicated isn't it?

Donna
I am not aware of the particulars of the stent surgery but hope that they find that they can place stents after they do my angiogram on February 22nd.
Hope it all goes well for you
