Does a glass of wine take away your IIH Headache pain?
Alcohol and IIH
Drinking with IIH
Drinking and IIH

We went to dinner the other night and of course I had a huge headache. I ordered a glass of wine with dinner and when I was done with it my headache was gone. Now I dont' normally drink wine but do sometimes have other alcohol drinks and have never had this happen. At first I thouth it was just a fluke so for the sake of science I bought a bottle of wine and had a glass anothr night and it did the same thing!
Now I know it must have soemthing to do with being a diuretic, but I've been on diamox and lasix and never got results like that!

Anyone else have this happen?

Thanks, Melissa

You are so lucky, I sometimes get the opposite, so if I do have some wine when eating out or socialising, I have it with soda so it's basically a spritzer. I can't wait to see if any other members have the same experience as you, I will be so jealous if there is LOL! nuhuh

;) Ya but now that I know this little trick i'm always afraid i'm going to want to a drink every night. Not sure yet if that is a good thing. Trade a pickled brain for a pickled liver from drinking too much. lol

I really would just like to know why it takes my pain away. And as a side note, when i have a couple glasses I pee a lot..... other wise I never do.... even when on lasix & diamox.

:lol3 Melissa

hmm. That is nice for me it does the opposite, when ever I drink I get hot and swell up so I think it increases my pressure. But hey if it work then do it.

im the same..i can drink and feel alright. personally think its a placebo effect..its safe to say we all relax a little when weve had one or two to drink, iv always thought of it as just being me relaxing and allowing myself not to be so caught up on my head.. although if i do over do it i get the mother of all hang overs! lol

Hi Mel,

I used to have the odd drink and it never made me feel any worse or any better, but I have recently had a very bad spell with my symptoms over the Christmas period. On Christmas day I tried to enjoy a drink with my family and found it made my headache much worse. I had to stop and drink water for the rest of the day :(

Although I like the sound of trial, all in aid of medical science of course Smile

Ooh no it's terrible for me

I had a drink once and it brought my headache on so badly I went on to be hospitalised for 3 weeks! nervous

I stay well away from alcohol, it only seems to make me severely worse, I haven't had a drink for over 14 months now, it's just not worth the hassle to me. dance

I used to stay away from alcohol before I was diagnosed anyway, I only had about a drink a month, so maybe this Ihad something to do with it? I don't know. But I definitely don't want to risk it again! :lol1:
