Hi my name is Lisa.
I am 34 years old.
Married to a beautiful husband 20 years and going stong.
We have 3 gorgeous kids(17,15 and 11 years old)

Well here is my story cut short Lisa - diagnosed 2005/2006 774264 Almost 4 years ago i went to the doctors with an annoying whooshing noise in my ears Lisa - diagnosed 2005/2006 4953 So my GP sent me to an ear specialist who found nothing. So i thought well it musnt be anything to worry about and my regular GP didnt seem to be too fazed about it. So I just put up with it for about a year or so but then i started having a pressure feeling behind my eyes. So back to the doctor for me, this time i had blood tests done which all came back normal. My blood pressure was perfect. More time went by  The pressure got so bad behind my eyes and ears that i went back and demanded that they do something for me. I had CT scans and a MRI done which all came back clear so my GP eventually referred me to a neurologist and thats when i found out i had iih Lisa - diagnosed 2005/2006 657602 In one way i was relieved to actually know what was wrong with me but then i also felt scared. i have been on Diamox now for 1 year and 5 months and i am taking 250mg x 6 per day which at first it was working great but now is doing absolutely nothing Lisa - diagnosed 2005/2006 722864 Now the plan is to do another lumbar pucture to see where the pressure is at and if it is still high they want to put a shunt in. Not really looking forward to this. I am so glad i found this site!! Lisa - diagnosed 2005/2006 798403

Hi Lisa and a big welcome to the group, I'm so glad you found us. It never ceases to amaze the hoops we have to jump through just to get diagnosed, and for someone to tell us what's actually going on. SO I know it will have been frustrating, worrying and above all quite scary for you at the time.

I know how you feel about the suggestion of surgery, I was adamant I wouldn't have one, because the thought of it was so frightening, but when I was 32, and they mentioned it again, and said in the long run it would be better to have it, I had to agree. It's been nearly 10 years now since I had my first shunt, and although it has been a bit hit and miss with some of them, all in all, I am so glad I have one, as it's made such a difference, and allowed me to get on with my life, which means I can use my experiences to help it not seem so scary, and such a trip into the unknown should you have to have one.hug
