So went to my PCP yesterday its the first time since my shunt was placed. I was looking forward to talking to him and seeing what he thinks. My appt was at 8, they called me back at 8:45 and when he walked in he says " we are going to need to hurry".. then he sits and types while not even looking at me. I was annoyed and just wanted to cry. When your hope for help is doctors and they treat you like they dont have time to even look at you while they are typing away... hes like " keep talking while im typing"... are you FING kidding me!? Ive been feeling like hell im worried ill loose my job since I seem o only be able to make it 3-4 days out of 5 I needed his help :( Finding a new doctor is terrible, He never seems to know anything about IIH though and when I need help for things lke headaches and anxiety he wants me to meditate and try calming myself down... to a certain extent that would be better. Im really having issues right now though I feel sick, it makes me depressed everything I try isnt helping. I am wondering if i shoul dtry to get state disability since ill probably get canned? I dont even know, i told him my anxiety meds are not helping so he says stop taking them.. thats just great. Glad I paid 20 co pay and whatever else my insurance paid for him to basically make me feel worse. I am trying since my shunt surgery to just live as well as i can and accept this condition as best as I can but how do you do that when the help isnt helping and you just cant do your daily duites... how do you not stress about that!? I dont even know how to help myself anymore. Sorry for the long rant, I know some of you can relate, and it makes me feel better getting it off my chest. GOing to go lay down again.. YIPPEE

I haven't got words to express my anger at your Doctor! For one he should be focusing on YOU, as that's why you're there, and two, you can't just stop taking anxiety meds just like that, you have to wean off them or you can hit a bottom very quickly.

It might be time for you to find another PCP, if possible one who knows how to treat their patient. His attitude and care of you is totally unacceptable, and you were right to rant, and should never apologise for doing so.

One of the reasons we have our new registry, is so that members can also put in the name of their IIH specialist, which means you will be able to then access the information and find one in your area. This is going to take sometime to build I know, but hopefully we will have a list that you and other members will be confident in the fact they will find a specialist near by.

How are you finding the shunt? Are you noticing any problems or anything we might be able to help you with?

That is ridiculous! I agree with Heidi and think it's time you look for other options. As far as your job, look into FMLA (Family Medical Leave). You have to work 1250 hours to qualify, but it provides you with up to 12 weeks off for a qualifying condition each year. You have to get the form from HR and doctor needs to complete it, but guidelines should be listed in your employee handbook or manual. I've been able to maintain full time employment with it because you're not penalized for unpaid leave or anything. You could apply for disability through Social Security, but something like 90-95% of people are denied initially and you have to appeal..it all takes waaaay too much time. I was actually back to work before I had my hearing and was awarded disability..it's crazy!

Just try to rest and take care of yourself the best you can. Try keeping a symptom log, if you haven't already started..it will help you track any patterns and give doctor more info. I would even add changes to anxiety levels and symptoms, since PCP recently removed that med. If you ever have any doubts about changing meds, call your pharmacist. In the states they seem to know way more about meds than the doctors.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
Take care,
Julie

My goodness, just when you think it can't get any crazier, this is outrageous!
Please, please, find a different set of doctors to go to. You don't deserve this, in fact, you deserve to be treated like a real person. That doctor needs to be reported. Put it on Angie's list!

thanks guys, I was so sad... you feel like ok im going in to the doc in a few days we will figure something out I can hang on until then...nope he is in a damn hurry. and the stopping the anxiety meds!!?? did you forget why I need them in the first place!? Wish I could stop and that I didnt need them but I do need them or I wouldnt have asked for help to begin with. felt like a stranger walking in there for the first time. eeek. arrggg, still not over that. I havent noticed too much difference with the shunt except the whooshing is not constant but if i bend down or cough or move my head fast it starts... so weird. THe shunt doesnt bother me too much I just hope its working!! I saw my local neurologist yesterday and he seemed to think it was ok, said its going to take time for it to calm and I might always have head pain but hes glad I did it to save the vision, im glad too I guess i was hoping for more relief ( one can hope) He also started me on Tegretol at night and in the morning has anyone tried this? He said it has been known to help head pain... Im a little weary because I have tired all the other anti sezure drugs in the past and nothing made a difference, also neurontin that didnt help either. I was just glad to come out of there with something to try...something besides just dealing with it....... especially after the PCP appt that was just a waste of my damn time. I will be looking for a new PCP I just cant imagine doing that again :(
I did fill out the OFLA forms but I have no more PTO and my work has been ok with like the surgery part but people think im fixed now so I should be fine, I try explaining its not like that that its not a cure but hopefully it helps, I work in a team of three people and when im gone they get no help at all and have to do all of my share and they get so overwhelmed. Its very frusterating knowing that there isnt coverage for any of us if were out sick or even for a vacation. I feel like im always appologizing for missing a day or whatever. Its not my teamates faults but the orginazation just doesnt listen or care what stress were in in getting the job done, ive gotten to the point where I just tune it out in my head when I cant be there because its thier fault not offering coverage! I cant help that this happened to me. it sucks though. They had three weeks to get coverage for my surgery and they just didnt get anyone in there so my team had to figure it out (they wouldnt even offer them ot) arrg
I realy am thankful I have you all to talk to!! you UNDERSTAND!! It really means a lot, especially in times like these Smile

HI, My daughter had Tegretol for the headaches. It apparently blocks pain receptors. It worked for the pain but after two days she developed a severe allergic reaction and had to stop taking it . Hope things work out for you Very Happy
