I am on the geniric for Diamox imy neuro started me on 1000mg a day now up to 1500mg a day reluctly said that is as high a dosage as she would go my primary doc agreed with her I have read that some people are on 4000mg a day and that you can go up that high my primary doc tried to explain it to me that it can effect my kidney just wondering what other peoples experence has been with this I drink lots of water watch my sodium intake and try to eat a lot of bannans and stuff I have tolerated the med really well just still have a lot of problems some of my symptoms are better sorry about spelling having a bad brain day thank you

It can cause kidney and liver damage, so really depends on your medical history and functioning. I assume that they're doing blood tests to monitor kidney function, so you may just want to ask why they're limiting the dosage. Take documentation supporting higher doses with you and see if they'll be willing to work with you. Good luck!!!

I take a generic for Diamox also. There is some issues with those made by Lannett (who makes mine :roll: ), that those by Taro are better.
And yes, 1000 is definitely not a max dose for this drug. Do ask your doctors why they want to limit it, especially if you are tolerating the drug well. I go for blood tests, checking my electrolytes every 3 to 4 months to watch kidney function. I also take a daily pot chlor supplement (prescription).
