My surgeon wasn't convinced i need tge surgery despite other doctors saying is an emergency... im getting the VP shunt on Christmas eve or January 14, 2013. He wants to do a lumbar puncture to relieve pressure. He wants me to know that tge surgery won't fix anything. Sir you dont know tge pain i live with. I wanted to choke the crap out of him. Be it as it may my mother got up in his face. So according to him im having elective surgery!! My emotional range talking to him weren't from this [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] to this [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] to this [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

You may want to find another doctor. Elective surgery is often not covered by insurance.
You need a doctor who cares about you, about how you are feeling. This guy needs an attitude adjustment.

I agree with Linda..you may want to look for another surgeon. Surgery isn't a cure, but it should help relieve your IIH symptoms..idiot! I would at least check with your insurance because you may not be covered if it's classified an elective surgery. I know it's frustrating and you're just looking forward to finding relief, but you also want to make sure it's done right and you're well cared for..this guy doesn't seem like he'd really care or listen, especially if you have any difficulties with recovery (God forbid). I would suggest asking those physicians that view this is an emergency for another referral. I'm glad your Mother was there to support you, but I do hope you consider other options before pursuing surgery with this guy.

We're here to support you!

It is covered by my insurance because i am considered disabled. He thinks i am to young and is worried about the complications and my daughter, but i have family support.

oh that A-- again. well you are too young to have such an awful disabling disease. does he want to take this up with god or something on your behalf? short of that, could he just treat the patient?
why don't you ask him, when he gets a 6 month old ex preemie who had an intraventricular bleed and needs a VP shunt for hydrocephalus, does he let the baby's head blow up like a balloon and it's brain get compressed and damaged and the baby's development suffer because HE thinks the baby is too young for a shunt? is he god or something? he needs to get over himself.

Complications are always a risk, but the benefits can be amazing! I hope it all works out and you find much needed relief.

Good luck!!!
